Ruth G Smeltz, age 78, of 543 Schoaf Buck Road, Lykens Twp, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at The Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg. She was born on Sunday, October 6, 1935, in Spring Glen, a daughter of the late Ernest and Gertie Wiest Kissinger. She was a graduate of the former Hubley Twp High School and Empire Beauty School, Pottsville. She was a self employed beautician. She was a member of Zion Lutheran (Klinger's) Church, Erdman; where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and Luther League advisor. She was also a member and past Matron, and Noble Grand of Idella Rebeckah Lodge 57 of Dornsife, a former Cub Scout Den Mother for the Gratz Cub Scouts, and a member of TOPS of Millersburg. Ruth enjoyed traveling and crafts. Her husband Lester D Smeltz, passed away in 1989. She was also preceded in death by a grandson Jeremy Smeltz; by two sisters Edith Klinger and Arlene Lucas; and by three brothers Leroy Kissinger, Willard Kissinger, and Elwood Kissinger. She is survived by a son Bruce L Smeltz of Sacramento; two daughters Debra A Smucker and her husband Art of Newville, PA, Diane M Wolfgang and her husband Randy of Lykens; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister Anna Wenrich of Spring Glen; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Friday, January 10, 2014, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Jonathan Jenkins officiating. Visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday at the funeral home. Burial was made in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento. Condolences can be left for the family at www.buffingtonreed.com .
