Obituary

Robert M "Whitey" Klinger, age 92, of Valley View, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Genesis Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

He was born on Sunday, June 14, 1925, in Spring Glen, a son of the late Frank A Klinger and the late Ellen S Lettich Klinger.

He was a 1943 graduate of the former Hubley Twp High School. Whitey served his country in the US Army Infantry Division in World War II from 1943-1945. He began active combat duty in the Italian campaign and was awarded the Commendation for Meritorious Service and the Purple Heart Medal.

Following his service to his country, Whitey was employed at the former Pine Creek Coal Company and then by the Federal Government at Ft Indiantown Gap until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of Pine Creek United Methodist Church, Spring Glen.

Whitey was also a member, former treasurer and cemetery board member at the former St Mark's UM Church, Spring Glen, a member of Larry's Creek Fish and Game of Lycoming County, FandAM Valley Lodge 797, Valley View, Harrisburg Consistory, Rajah Shrine of Reading, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Pottsville Forest, Chapter of Ashland, Council and Commandery of Pottsville, American Legion Post 575 Valley View, VFW Post 8237 Valley View, a past Commander of the DAV of Valley View, and a member of the Order of Purple Heart. Whitey enjoyed hunting and spending time at his camp.

His wife of sixty-nine years, Jean E Gable Klinger passed away in 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald M Klinger; three brothers Clair Klinger, Harold Klinger, and Marvin Klinger; and by seven sisters Sadie Scheib, Nettie Henry, Maude Coleman, Eva Artz, Faye Osman, Lillian Dressler, and Erma Klinger.

He is survived a by a daughter, Sherryn L Minich and her husband Robert of Allentown; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Friday, December 1, 2017, at 11:00 am, with Rev. W. Keith Rockwell officiating.

A viewing was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 9:45 am on Friday at the funeral home.

Burial was made in St. Mark's Cemetery, Spring Glen.
