Click here to view the Video Tribute for Raymond. Raymond L Wetzel, age 81, of 952 E Main Street, Hegins, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at his residence. He was born on Tuesday, March 1, 1932, in Mount Carmel, a son of the late William E and Lottie E Hepler Wetzel. He was a 1949 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School and attended the former Williamsport Trade School. He enlisted in the US Army on November 26, 1949 and was honorably discharged on March 31, 1951. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Sharp Shooter Badge w/Rifle Bar, Republic of Korea Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Cold War Certificate and a Letter of Appreciation from the Republic of Korea on the 50th Anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. He was a supervisor at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Hegins, where he served as President of the Trustees, and was a member of the Administrative Board and the Men's Chorus. He also served as sound technician for several years. He was also a member of VFW Post 8237 Valley View, the Disabled American Veterans, F&AM Valley Lodge 797 Valley View, and the Harrisburg Consistory. Raymond enjoyed hunting, traveling, spending time with his family, and spending time on his computer. He was preceded in death by a brother James Wetzel. He is survived by his wife Ruth A Weaver Wetzel, to whom he was married for 54 years. He is also survived by two daughters Lynne L Hausman and her husband Thomas of Valley View, Michelle A LaMachia and her husband Philip of Rochester, NY; two granddaughters Ashley L Hausman and her fiancé Zachary Christman of Valley View, Chelsea J Woods and her husband Benjamin of Buffalo, NY; two brothers Carl Wetzel of Ashland and Ralph Wetzel of Hegins; a sister Ruth Zabor of Cupertino, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held at St. John's United Methodist Church, Hegins, on Monday, April 29, 2013, at 11:00 am, with Rev. William Danis officiating. Masonic Services were held at 9:00 am on Monday at the church. A viewing was held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday at the church. Burial with Military Honors was made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at 11:30 am on Tuesday, April 30 2013. The procession will leave Buffington-Reed Funeral Home at 10:30 am on Tuesday. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 285, Hegins, PA 17938 .
