Obituary

Monroe E Lucas, age 89, of 39 Lucas Lane, Ashland, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012 at his residence. He was born on Tuesday, January 30, 1923, in Barry Twp, a son of the late Earl and Alma Header Lucas. He served in the US Army during World War II. He worked in his fathers coal mine, in construction, and on the family farm. He was a member of Barry Salem United Methodist Church, Weishample. His wife Bernice M Herb Lucas passed away in 1994. He was also preceded in death by a son Dean R Lucas, a granddaughter, Tina S Lucas-Curran, and two brothers Melvin Lucas and Wilbur Lucas. He is survived by a son Allen M Lucas of Ashland; two daughters Bonnie K Smith and her husband Robert of Mount Carmel, Cathy G Harner and her husband Robert of Lavelle; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister Helen Cameron of Drums; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Barry Salem United Methodist Church, Weishample, on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at 11:00 am, with Rev. John Wallace officiating. A viewing was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday at the church. Burial was made in Salem Cemetery, Weishample. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
