Mary E Maurer, age 89, of Golden Living York Terrace, Pottsville, formerly of Valley View, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Golden Living York Terrace.

She was born on Tuesday, April 7, 1925, in Valley View, a daughter of the late George D Wenrich and Mamie Koppenhaver Wenrich.

She was a graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School.

Mary was a seamstress in several area garment factories prior to her retirement.

She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View; where she taught Sunday School for 40 years, was president of the Ladies Bible Class, president of the Missionary Society, Sunday School Superintendent, Superintendent and teacher in Bible School, member of the choir, performed in cantatas, and was a member of the Ladies Septet. She helped to organize the prayer chain and also helped to organize and direct the youth choir at St. Andrew's. Mary, her parents, and her children sang together in local churches for many years.

Her husband Alvin J Maurer passed away in 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson Timothy Scheib; and by two brothers Ruben Wenrich and David Wenrich.

She is survived by a son, James A Maurer and his wife Karen of Lititz; a daughter, Louise M Scheib of East Norriton; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Wenrich of Williamstown.

Funeral services were held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at 3:00 pm, with Rev. Donald Morgan officiating.

A viewing was held from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday at the church.

Burial was made in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View.
