Lucille Marie Geist, age 75, of 225 E Main Street, Hegins, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Monday, July 23, 1934 in Valley View, a daughter of the late Harrison Updegrave and the late Tillie (Schwalm) Updegrave. She was a 1952 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School and a graduate of the McCann School of Business, Pottsville. Both she and her husband owned and operated the former Valley Home Center; she had also been employed as a bookkeeper for the former Starr's Poultry and the former Starr's Hardware, both of Valley View. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View; where she was a member of the former Adult Fellowship Group, had been involved with initiating the Easter Candy Sales, and was a member of the Church Choir. She was preceded in death by three brothers Leroy, Lloyd, and Frank Stutzman, and a sister Lillian Reider. She is survived by her husband Donald F Geist, to whom she was married for 54 years. She is also survived by a son, William D Geist and his wife, Robyn of Reading; a daughter, LuAnn M Carpenter and her husband, Gary of Ephrata; a grandson, David G Carpenter of Lewisberry; four granddaughters, Amy L Lisk of Downington, Angela M Geist of New Ringold, Kristi L Duffy of Blandon, and Mandy L Bell of Lititz; six great grandchildren; and sister, Frances Herb of Valley View. Services were held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Philip Sabas officiating, assisted by Rev. Donald Morgan. A viewing was held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
