Obituary

Lois E (Sausser) Harring, age 80, of 105 Division Street, Valley View, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She was born on Thursday, July 30, 1931, in Valley View, a daughter of Dr. Irvin E and Katie (Otto) Sausser. She was a 1949 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School and a 1953 graduate of West Chester University. She also did graduate studies at Penn State University, Temple University, and Bloomsburg University. She taught kindergarten in the Reading School District and then began the Special Education Program at the Tri-Valley School District. She taught elementary school in the Abington School District and was a substitute teacher at the Hegins Hubley Elementary School until her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View where she served as a Sunday school teacher, director of the children's choir, a member of the worship and music committee, and a member of the church council. She was a founding member of the Trinity Lutheran Day Care and served on its board of directors. She was also a member of the Schuylkill County Medical Auxiliary. Lois enjoyed traveling, attending concerts and theatre productions, painting, and playing piano. She was preceded in death by an infant sister. She is survived by her husband Dr Maynard L Harring, to whom she was married for 54 years. She is also survived by two daughters Dr Kathleen E Harring and her husband Dr John Wittenbraker of Harleysville, and Debra H D'Arinzo and her husband Kenneth of Norwalk, CT; a son Dr James I Harring of Leonardtown, MD; two granddaughters Carolyn H Wittenbraker of Brooklyn, NY, and Lauren H D'Arinzo of Norwalk, CT; two grandsons Kyle A Harring and Michael Harring both of Fredericksburg; VA and a sister Anna Alexander of Litiz. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, on Monday, August 22, 2011, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Brian Beissel officiating. Visitation was held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday at the church. Burial was made in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Valley View. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 153, Valley View, PA 17983. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
