Leon L Koppenhaver, age 90, of 1011 E Main St, Hegins, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Waterbridge at Pine Grove. He was born on Wednesday, June 21, 1922, in Spring Glen, a son of the late Edwin and Sula Shade Koppenhaver. He served in the US Army in Germany during World War II. He was a coal miner for Penag Coal Company, Markson Coal Company, and Hegins Mining Co. He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins. He was also a member of American Legion Post 575 Valley View. Leon enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on puzzles. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Sherry Mace; a great grandson Link Gochenauer; three brothers Clair Koppenhaver, Arthur Koppenhaver, and Thomas Koppenhaver, and by a sister Erma Scheib. He is survived by his wife Anna Mae (Ebert) Koppenhaver, to whom he was married for 65 years. He is also survived by a daughter Patricia A Mace and her husband Dennis of Hegins; a grandson Brian C Mace of Coal Valley, IL; two granddaughters Paula J Davis of Spring Glen and Tonya M Gochenauer of Middletown; a great grandson Blake M Davis of Spring Glen; a great granddaughter Breanna M Davis of Spring Glen; two brothers Eugene Koppenhaver of Myerstown and James Koppenhaver of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters Lauretta Schultz of Harrisburg and Arlene Deppen of Pillow; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Friday, February 8, 2013, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Warren Egebo officiating. Visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Friedens Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 375, Hegins, PA 17938.
