Klouser, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, age 67, of 205 Gap Street, Valley View, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, September 3, 2010 at New York Presbyterian Columbia Hospital, New York, NY. He was born on Saturday, October 3, 1942, in Valley View, a son of the late Earl J. Klouser and Alma C. (Ney) Klouser. He was a 1960 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Bloomsburg University. He was a World History and Social Studies teacher for the Tri-Valley School District for 39 years. He was instrumental in introducing new subjects into the Social Studies curriculum including World Religions, the Vietnam War, Sociology, Marriage and Family, and Prejudice and Minorities. He was an advisor to the Student Council for many years, class advisor for numerous classes; and an advisor to peer helpers. Larry was selected in 1996 for a Summer Fellowship on the Holocaust and Jewish Resistance in Poland and Israel. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View; where he served on the church council and the pastoral care team. He was advisor for many years to the Trinity Lutheran Youth Group, and a former adult Sunday School teacher. Larry was also a member of the Tri-Valley Zoning Board, Tri-Valley Charities, and the Schuylkill Community Action Committee. He was a former member and charter president of the Hegins Valley Jaycees. Larry was one of the original organizers of the Tri-Valley Girls Softball League. He was a former member of the Tri-Valley Teachers Assoc, the PA State Education Assoc, and the National Education Assoc. One of Larry's passions was traveling. He especially enjoyed following the paths of great historical leaders and events. He often visited battlefields, museums, reenactments, and landmarks. Larry loved yard work and gardening, traveling to the shore, reading, and spending time with his family, especially with his four grandchildren. Every year Larry looked forward to his summer "job" working with his friends a the Berks County IU. He was preceded in death by a brother Eugene Klouser and a sister Dawn Klouser. He is survived by his wife Phyllis M. (Haas) Klouser, to whom he was married for 38 years. He is also survived by two daughters Jessica L. Klouser of Philadelphia and Jennifer A. Wehry and her husband Randy of Wellsville; two granddaughters Grace Wehry and Emma Wehry both of Wellsville; two grandsons Luke Wehry and Jack Wehry both of Wellsville; and a sister Nancy Klinger of Valley View. Memorial services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Curtis Zemencik officiating. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Valley View. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Larry E. Klouser Scholarship Fund, c/o Gratz National Bank, 1625 W Main Street, Valley View PA 17983. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
