Lamar L Schaeffer, age 66, of 42 N Crescent Street, Tremont, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at his residence. He was born on Friday, November 22, 1946, in Good Spring, a son of the late Irvin and Elizabeth Saltzman Schaeffer. He was a coal miner for Kocher Coal Company, Valley View, prior to his retirement. He was of the Lutheran Faith. He had been active in the Tremont Little League Baseball organization and the Tremont Food Pantry. Lamar enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death a brother, George Schaeffer. He is survived by his wife Carolyn J Carl Schaeffer, to whom he was married for 46 years. He is also survived by three sons Lamar L Schaeffer, Jr and his companion Shirley Adams of Tremont, Stephen M Schaeffer and his wife Holly of Pine Grove, and Brian C Schaeffer and his companion Dorothy Krammes of Tremont; two daughters Elizabeth A Bender and her husband Brian of Joliet, and Pamela D Hindman and her husband Mark of Tremont; nine grandchildren Tyler, Josh, Jake, Joe, Emily, Ethan, Makenna, Kelly, and Marissa; three brothers William Schaeffer of Lykens, Robert Schaeffer of Hegins, and Thomas Schaeffer of Schuylkill Haven; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Richard Schoenleber officiating. Visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday at the funeral home.
