Karl D Bernd, age 82, of Pine Grove, formerly of Valley View, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 2, 2017. Karl was and will always be a loving husband, father, pap, grandpa, and friend.
He was born on Friday, February 1, 1935, in Pottsville, a son of the late Franklin Bernd and the late Helen Grath Bernd.
He was a 1953 graduate of the former Tremont High School.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean War.
Karl was a telephone installer for ATT, Pottsville, prior to his retirement.
He was of the Protestant Faith.
He was a member of FandAM Lodge 267, Tremont for 61 years; where he served as past master and former secretary/treasurer, a member of Valley View Gun Club, and a life member of his "little piece of heaven" the Anthracite Rod and Gun Club, North Bend.
There was nothing Karl liked better then being surrounded by family and friends, reading a good book, working in his "shop", fishing, and hunting. He was a great conversationalist and loved to reminisce. No one escaped his legendary practical jokes. And we cannot forget his lifelong passion for the Green Bay Packers.
Karl's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the prides and joys of his life. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and zest for life will live on through them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by an infant brother, Harry Bernd; and a brother, Franklin Bernd, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy B Morgan Bernd, to whom he was married for 63 years.
He is also survived by two daughters, Debra J Demcher and her husband Frank of Tremont and Sue A Gent of Florida; a son, Eric K Bernd and his wife Cindy of Valley View; a special family member Hac Phan; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
At Karl's request there will be no public memorial service. He asks that you remember and celebrate his life as he lived; and .... "oh how he lived"!
Memorial contributions can be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA, 745 West Governor Road, Hershey, PA 17033.
