Obituary

Judith Ann Howell (nee Zacker) passed away recently after a long illness. She is a World War II "war baby", born before her father was deployed to fight in World War II in Europe and Africa with Gen. Patton for the next three years. She is the daughter of Wallace and Esther Zacker.

Judith was a lover of learning and a polyglot (8 languages). Happy childhood in Westville Grove, NJ. After graduating from Woodbury High School in Woodbury, NJ, she studied and / or received degrees from Rutgers University (humanities), University of California, Berkeley (English), San Francisco State University (linguistics / TESOL), Queens University in Northern Ireland (anthropology), Gippsland Institute of Advanced Studies in Australia (art).

She resided, worked, and / or traveled in over 40 countries and four continents. During her teaching career she was beloved teacher of students in Australia, Honduras, Italy, Portugal, Spain, as well as San Francisco Bay Area in California, and Princeton NJ. Speaker at international teachers' conferences.

After living in Yardley PA and Alexandria VA for several years, Judith and husband Bruce moved to Punta Gorda FL, where she was a member of the Isles Yacht Club, and served on its Cork and Fork and hospitality committees, as well as secretary and photographer for the Islettes ladies group, and co-founded the Scrabble Group. She was an avid theatre buff and extensive reader ... quilts ... folk art ... family ...

Judith was predeceased by her parents, Wallace and Esther Zacker. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 32 years, Bruce Howell; her brother, David Zacker (Kate); stepchildren, Susan Smith (Greg) and Jeffrey Howell (Dori); grandchildren Daniel Smith (Kat), Erica Boley (Zach), Jeffrey Smith, Tessa and Jenna Howell; and great-grandson, Noah Smith.

She will be interred overlooking the beautiful Hegins Valley in her beloved Hegins, Pennsylvania.
