Click here to view the Video Tribute for Joe. Joseph E Reed, age 76, of Pillow, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at The Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg. He was born on Tuesday, January 26, 1937, in Harrisburg, a son of the late Marlin S Reed, Sr and Iva A Troutman Reed. He was a 1955 graduate of the former Hubley Twp High School and attended Susquehanna University. He was a member of St. Peter's "Hoffman's" United Church of Christ, Lykens Twp. Joe installed carpet for area residents for over fifty years. He had worked at the former Muskin Shoe Company, Millersburg, and had retired from the former Brubaker Tool Corporation, Millersburg. He was president of the Pillow Borough Council for over twenty years. He was also a member of the Pillow Fire Company. Joe called bingo at the Gratz Auction, the Crossroads Auction, and the Lewisburg Auction for many years. He enjoyed auto racing, camping, and fishing. Joe was a season ticket holder at Selinsgrove Speedway for fifty years. He was preceded in death by a son Timothy W Reed; a grandson Spencer Witmer; a brother William Reed; and two sisters Betty Headdings and Polly Bonawitz. He is survived by his wife Shirley E Ferree Reed, to whom he was married for 52 years. He is also survived by a daughter Peggy Jo Witmer and her husband Randy of Millersburg; a son Anthony J Reed and his wife Christine of Halifax; four granddaughters Ashley Shoop of Land O Lakes, FL, Shelby Witmer of Millersburg, Samantha Witmer of Millersburg, and Rylee Reed of Halifax; a grandson Reece Witmer of Millersburg; two brothers James "Jack" Reed, Sr of Gratz, and Marlin "Budd" Reed, Jr of Myerstown; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at St. Peter's "Hoffman's" United Church of Christ,1289 S Crossroads Road, Lykens, on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Jeffrey A Wagner officiating. A viewing was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday at the church. Burial was made in Union Cemetery, Pillow.
