John A Hornberger, age 92, of 316 W Walnut Street, Valley View, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Lehigh Valley Inpatient Hospice, Allentown. He was born on Tuesday, August 16, 1921, in Hegins, a son of the late David and Emma Yerger Hornberger. He was a 1939 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School. He served as a medic in the US Army in Europe during World War II. He was a carpenter for the former Boyertown Body Works prior to his retirement. He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins. He was also a member of American Legion Post 575, Valley View. John enjoyed woodworking and gardening. His wife, Grace E Kauffman Hornberger, passed away in 2010. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Alvin Hornberger and Mark Hornberger; and by a sister Kathryn Klouser. He is survived by a sister, Anna Klouser of Pine Grove; three sister in laws, Mae Kauffman of Hegins, Erma Kauffman of Hegins, and C. Irene Schovel of Millersburg; and by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Warren Egebo officiating. A viewing was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors was made in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins.
