Jimmy E. Shade, age 73, of 214 W Maple Street, Valley View, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at his residence. He was born on October 8, 1934 a son of the late Lawrence and Lena (Morgan) Shade. He was a graduate of the former Hegins Township High School. He was a self employed coal miner and had also been employed as a miner, mine superintendent, and truck driver for Kocher Coal Co., Tower City. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View. He served as Valley View Legion Baseball Manager from 1967 to 1985. He was inducted into the Schuylkill County Chapter of the Pennsylvania State Sports Hall of Fame as a player and manager. He was also inducted into the American Legion Sports Hall of Fame as a manager for the Valley View Legion Team. He was a member of the Valley View Fire Company; he was the oldest active member of the Lykens Valley Hunting Camp of Driftwood, Cameron County. He was preceded in death by three brothers Mark, William, and Gary Shade. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor M. (Michael) Shade, to whom he was married for 54 years. He is also survived by a son, Randy L Shade and his wife, Diane of Carlisle; a grandson, Ryan L Shade and his wife, Jackie of Carlisle; a brother, Alvin Shade of Washington, Pa.; and three sisters, Marie Beard of Selinsgrove, Martha Herb of Hegins, and Phyllis Siminitus of West Terrace. Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. A viewing was held from 12:30 until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Burial was made in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Valley View.
