Obituary

James Franklin Reider, known to many as "Jim" or "Clipper," of Ridgewood, NJ, and Wellfleet,
MA, passed away peacefully on August 25th at the age of 91. He was born on August 19,
1933, in Valley View, PA, to Lillian and Russell Reider, one of five children. Jim was a graduate
of Kenwood High School and the University of Maryland, where he excelled as an All-American
soccer player. He served overseas in Germany with distinction and had a long, successful
career in marketing, working with companies such as Nabisco, General Foods, Abu Garcia,
KPMG, and Arthur D. Little. In his later years, he became a private management consultant,
enjoying the opportunity to help new business owners succeed.

Jim is survived by his wife Patricia, his daughters, Patricia Ormsby, Jamie Triebwasser,
Kimberly Cataldo, Bridget Guida, and Hilary Wallace. He will also be loved and missed by his
five sons-in-law, 19 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his brother, Jack Reider, his sister,
Lillian Decker, and his large extended family and friends from Valley View and beyond.
Jim was always the life of the party, frequently dressing in silly costumes. He engaged his
children and grandchildren in epic sandcastle building, fireworks displays, homemade sledding
runs, pirate treasure adventures, piñata building, secret playgrounds, and Easter egg hunts. He
was also the family sports coach, offering endless tips for soccer, basketball, baseball, and
softball players in the family.

Jim and his wife Patricia fell in love with Wellfleet, Cape Cod, in 1969 and bought a summer
home there, where the entire family has congregated ever since. You would frequently find Jim,
or "Clipper," enjoying a hamburger at the bar with his buddies at the Land Ho in Orleans or
dancing away to the "Rip it Ups" during Happy Hour at the Pearl in Wellfleet. What he lacked in
dance moves, he always made up for with enthusiasm.
If you were to ask Jim what he considered his greatest accomplishment, he would tell you that
his legacy was providing a better life for his family than he had. More importantly, he wished to
leave his family with great memories to cherish and stories to pass on to the next generations
forever.

In remembrance, there will be several private gatherings in Ridgewood, NJ; Wellfleet, MA; and
Valley View, PA, where Jim's life and legacy will be celebrated by those closest to him. See below for service details.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Andrews UM Church located at 1382 West Main St., Valley View, PA 17983, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
