Click here to view the Video Tribute for Jim. James F Herb, age 66, of 301 Gap Street, Valley View, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born on Thursday, May 17, 1945, in Elizabethville, a son of Hilda C (Huntzinger) Herb of Valley View and the late Dallas F Herb. He was a 1963 graduate of Tri-Valley High School. He served for four years in the US Air Force serving in Vietnam. He retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service, the last four of which were served with the National Security Agency at Camp Smith, Hawaii. He was employed as a network technician for Harris Corporation, Harrisburg until becoming ill. He was a life member of VFW Post 8237 Valley View. Jim was a former assistant Scout Master in Adak, Alaska and Pensacola, FL. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and walking on the beach. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene "Pete" Herb. He is survived by his wife Kim D (Huntzinger) Herb, to whom he was married for 6 years. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter Patrice R Thompson and her husband Kenneth of Camp Hill; a son Patrick J Herb and his wife Tiffany of New York, NY; two step daughters Kristi K Clark and her husband Steve of Camp Hill and Kalli A Miller of Valley View; five grandchildren Tim, Patricia, Jessica, Hailey, and James; a brother Theodore Herb of Valley View; three sisters Ann Geist of Hummelstown, Betty Erdman of Enola, and Karen Umholtz of Enola; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Friday, November 25, 2011, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Gerald Frey officiating. Visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors was made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at 11 am on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.
