Hattie D Schwartz, age 93, of Schoolyard Square, Pine Grove, formerly of Joliett, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at theTremont Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Thursday, April 15, 1920, in Barry Twp, a daughter of the late Joseph F and Hattie D Knorr Lucas. She was a seamstress for numerous area garment factories prior to her retirement. She was a member of Barry Salem United Methodist Church, Weishample. She was a lifetime member of the Joliett Fire Company and the Tower City Moose Lodge and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Tower City Moose Lodge. Hattie enjoyed working on puzzles. Her husband Alvin J Schwartz, Sr. passed away in 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son Albert J Schwartz; a daughter Joan Lowthert; two grandsons Robert Kimmel and James Kimmel; two great grandsons Daniel Barry and Ray Bixler; and a great great grandson Brett Gibson. She is survived by two sons Joseph E Schwartz and his wife Mary Jean of Dagwood, DE and Alvin J Schwartz, Jr and his wife Deborah of Good Spring; three daughters Caroline H Hoffman of Tremont, Nancy L Bixler and her husband Dale of Fearnot, and Anna M Madden and her husband Patrick of Liverpool; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; and seventeen great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 11:00 am, with Rev. John Wallace officiating. A viewing was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday at the funeral home. Burial was made in Salem Cemetery, Weishample. Condolences can be left for the family at www.buffingtonreed.com . >
