Harvey Ruffus Harner, Sr, age 80, of the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Hegins, Pa, died Monday Dec. 8, 2003, at the Center. He was born in Fearnot, Pa on January 1, 1923, a son of the late John T Harner and Estella Edna (Carl) Harner. He retired as a coal miner at Harner Coal Company. His wife Elizabeth V (Miller) Harner died in 1997. Surviving are a son Harvey R Harner, Jr. of Hegins; three daughters Judy Lucas of Goodspirng, Lillie Lucas of Hegins, and Carol Miller of Hamilton, Montana; two sisters Emma Reightter of Hegins and Jennie Carl of R.D. Herndon; ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers William, Morris, Roy, Boyd, and John Harner, and by two sisters Maudie Harner and Dorothy Weist. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec 13, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Tremont with Elder Lamar Schwartz officiating. Burial will be made at the convenience of the family in Muir Methodist Cemetery, Muir, Pa. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, Pa, was in charge of arrangements.
