Gloria Jean Whitman, age 68, of 1619 W Main Street, Valley View, died Wednesday, October 18th, 2006 at her residence. She was born in Decatur, IL on June 28, 1938, a daughter of the late Everett C and Madeline (Creighton) Johnson. She was employed as a custodian for the Hegins Hubley Elementary School, Valley View, until her retirement. She was a former President of the Valley View Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins. Surviving are her husband John "Jack" R. Whitman, to whom she was married for 51 years. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son David L, Sr. husband of Starr Whitman, Sacramento, Pa; a daughter Tammy L wife of Dan Heffner, Pottsville; three grandsons David L Whitman, Jr., Hegins. Chad J Whitman, Sacramento, Pa, and Daniel R Whitman, Pitman; a granddaughter Christy L Ney, Tremont; five great grandchildren Brendan Whitman, Brittanie Whitman, Jagger Whitman, Genesis Whitman and Derick Ney; and a brother William A Johnson, Decatur, IL. A viewing was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View. Funeral services were private at the convenience of family at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with Rev. Claude Schach officiating. Burial was made in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins.
