George A Snyder, age 91, of Klingerstown, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center, where he was a long term care resident for the past 5 1/2 years.
He was born on Thursday, March 30, 1933, in Eldred Twp, a son of the late Elwood Snyder and the late Pauline (Harring) Snyder.
George served in the US Army during the Korean War in the 82nd Airborne Division. On his second tour in North Korea, he made 35 jumps as a paratrooper.
He was a truck driver for Reading Transportation prior to his retirement. He and his wife also ran a candy business, The Candy Box.
He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman.
He was also a member of Ten Dutchmen Camp, Clinton County and the 82nd Airborne Association. George enjoyed hunting and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Hess; and a brother Craig Snyder.
He is survived by his wife Joan C (Troutman) Snyder, to whom he was married for 64 years.
He is also survived by two daughters, Constance Snyder Malick of Center Valley and Melinda S Shafer and her husband Craig of Lansdale; three grandchildren, Hunter G M Malick and his wife Melissa of Ridgefield, CT, Gabrille C Malick and her fiance Matthew Bruer of Emmaus, and Logan J Shafer of Lansdale; great-grandchild, Carter V Malick; a brother, Terry Snyder and his wife Dawn of Dornsife; a sister, Doris Kehler and her husband Gene of Northumberland; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday at the church.
Private burial with Military Honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
