Gene W Hand, age 82, of 790 E Mountain Road, Hegins, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at his residence. He was born on Friday, June 8, 1928, in Fountain Springs, a son of the late Milton T Hand and Margaret J (Ossman) Hand. He was a 1946 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He retired as a logistics officer for the federal government. He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Fountain; where he also was a member of the Fountainaires and choir. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy G Hand. He is survived by his wife Kathryn M (Hoffman) Hand, to whom he was married for 60 years. He is also survived by a daughter Carole M Riehl and her husband Leonard of Dayton, OH; two sons David J Hand and his wife Beverly of Hegins, and John M Hand and his wife Brenda of Sacramento; four grandchildren Christopher J Hand, Bethany L Hand and Emily M Hand all of Sacramento, and Laura L Chamberlain of Pine Grove; two brothers Herman Hand of Lykens and Jerome Hand of Macungie. Funeral services were held at Christ United Church of Christ, Fountain, on Friday, October 15, 2010, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Claude Schach officiating. A viewing was held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday at the church. Burial was made in Calvary United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco.
