Fred Riley Umholtz, age 78, of 303 Gap Street, Valley View, died Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, Pa. He was born on June 13, 1925 in Valley View, a son of the late James S. and Della (Schreffler) Umholtz. He was an Army Veteran of WW II serving in the 88th Inf. Division in Italy receiving four Battle Stars, a Unit Citation, and two Good Conduct Medals. He retired as a maintenance employee for Kocher Coal Company, Valley View. He was alos a supervisor at the former Muskin Shoe Co., Millersburg. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View where he served on the Building Committee, the Organ Comittee, the Church Council, Sunday School Superintendent, and a member of the Choir. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 8237 and American Legion Post 575 both of Valley View. He was a life member of the Valley View Fire Company. He was a member of the former Valley View Brownies Baseball Team. Surviving are his wife of 58 years Alma A. (Feger) Umholtz, a son Ronald E Umholtz of Dauphin, Pa., and two granddaughters Kimberly Orth and Melissa Umholtz. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Umholtz. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial with Military Honors was made in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Valley View.
