Eugene "Pete" L Herb, age 68, of 923 E Main Street, Hegins, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, January 14, 1942, in Elizabethville, a son of Hilda C (Huntzinger) Herb of Valley View and the late Dallas F Herb. He had worked as a coal miner and had retired as a driller for Mazzuca Construction, Pottsville. He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins. He was also a member of the Valley View Gun Club, Erdman Sportsmen's Association, Valley View VFW Post 8237, and American Legion Post 575, Valley View. Pete was a former member of Banjo's Plus, the Lykens Liberty Hose Company Band, and several other local bands. He received a commendation from President Bush for the time he spent playing banjo in area nursing homes, which he greatly enjoyed. He enjoyed hunting, raising pigeons, playing euchre, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mitzi R (Green) Herb in 2004 and a son, Chris L Herb. Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters Vicki L Otto and her husband Gregory and Cheryl A Daubenspeck and her husband Todd both of Hegins; a son Bradd A Herb and his fiancee Jennifer Neye of Hegins; three grandsons Ryan Greany, Seth Waizenegger, and Ty Waizenegger; three granddaughters Valerie Pennypacker, Kimberly Mattis, and Lisa Gaut; six great grandchildren; two brothers Theodore Herb and James Herb both of Valley View; three sisters Ann Geist of Hummelstown, Betty Erdman of Enola, and Karen Umholtz of Enola; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Warren Egebo officiating. Visitation was held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial was made in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins. Condolences can be left for the family at
