Eugene H. Bixler, age 77, of 262 E Main St., Hegins, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born on Saturday, October 17, 1931 in Berrysburg, a son of the late Melvin Bixler and the late Viola (Harner) Bixler. He was a 1949 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School. He served in the Army with the 101st Airborne Division, during the Korean War. He was a tile setter for Bellwood Tile Company, New Cumberland and had retired from the former Maurer Orchards, Hegins. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Helen I. Bixler, to whom he was married for 54 years. He is also survived by two sons, Gary W Engle of Hegins and Robert E Bixler of Klingerstown; two daughters, Susan M Adams and her husband, Carl of Klingerstown and Dawn M Wright and her husband, Sean of Hegins; fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and a brother, Leonard Bixler of Camp Hill. Memorial services were held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Robert Straub officiating.
