Donald Franklin Geist, age 82, of 225 E Main Street, Hegins, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at The Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lititz. He was born on Tuesday, May 20, 1930, in Hegins, a son of the late Guy and Beulah Wiest Geist. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a owner of the former Valley Home Center, Hegins. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View. He was also a member of American Legion Post 575 Valley View and the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens. Donald enjoyed tinkering in his garage and was widely know for ability to repair things. His wife Lucille M (Updegrave) Geist passed away in 2009. He is survived by a son William D Geist and his wife Robyn of Reading; a daughter LuAnn M Carpenter and her husband Gary of Ephrata; a grandson David G Carpenter of Lewisberry; four granddaughters Amy L Lisk of Downingtown, Angela M Geist of Hegins, Kristi L Duffy of Blandon, and Mandy L Bell of Lititz; seven great grandchildren; a brother Paul Geist of Hegins; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church Valley View, on Friday, February 1, 2013, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Duane Bardo and Rev. Donald Morgan officiating. A viewing was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 221, Valley View, PA 17983.
