Obituary

Clara D Coleman, age 104, of the Polk Personal Care Center, Millersburg, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice, Harrisburg. She was born on Wednesday, September 4, 1907, in Gilberton, a daughter of late Charles C and Clara E Hinkel Dyer. She was a 1924 graduate of the former Mahanoy Twp High School and a 1927 and 1935 graduate of the former Kutztown Teachers College. Clara was the oldest surviving graduate of Kutztown Teachers College. After graduation from college she was employed as the Children's Librarian at the Pottsville Public Library; she was the first Librarian at the Hegins Twp High School; she was then employed as the Librarian for the Bureau of Employment and Unemployment Compensation and Librarian for the Pennsylvania Highway Department, Harrisburg and its offices throughout the state. After her retirement Clara moved to Arizona, where she resided for thirty years. She returned to Pennsylvania in 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert J Coleman in 1979. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Lewis Dyer and John Dyer and by a sister Edna Lyman. She is survived by a son Jerry L Coleman and his wife Colette of Ashland, OR and Honolulu, HI; a daughter Ellen A Andes and her husband Dr. Eugene of Sante Fe, NM; and three grandsons Thomas, Robert, and Richard Andes. Burial will be private in St. John's "Kimmel's" Cemetery, Ashland. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
