Chester L. "Son" Morgan, age 89, of Hegins, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021, surrounded by his family at his residence.
He was the loving husband of Jean M (Romberger) Morgan, with whom he celebrated seventy years of marriage this past September 15th.
He was born on Saturday, March 5, 1932, in Valley View, a son of late Roy Morgan and the late Lillie (Shaffer) Morgan.
Chester worked as a coal miner thirty-eight years in various area coal mines, eventually owning and operating his own mine in Schuylkill County. Most recently he enjoyed working as a custodian at Tri-Valley High School for twenty years before his retirement.
Chester loved to watch sports on television, avidly rooting for the Phillies, 76ers, and the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a classic car buff, racking up quite the model car collection over the years; was once a proud owner of his prized 1955 Crown Victoria and 1963 Galaxy 500.
Above all, his family is what meant the most to him. His bright blue eyes and smile lit up every room he walked into. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be truly missed by his entire family and all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by three brothers, Clayton Morgan, Ernest Morgan, and Richard Morgan, two sisters, Marian Motter and Beulah Hoy, and a grandson, Christian Morgan.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five children, Debra L Hoagland and her husband Robert of Bridgeville, DE, Craig E Morgan and his wife Shirl of Sacramento, Denise M Scharadin and her husband William of Shillington, Donna J Galemore and her partner Marty Bixler of Carlisle, and Matthew P Morgan of Hummelstown; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Morgan of Millersburg; sister, Alice Erdman of Raleigh, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 12:00 pm, with Rev. Lee Diefenderfer officiating.
A viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins.
