Obituary

Charles R Shade, age 80, of 2230 E Main Street, Sacramento, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Penn State Milton S Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. He was born on Wednesday, July 23, 1930, in Spring Glen, a son of the late Harry and Alice (Williams) Shade. He was a 1949 graduate of the former Hubley Twp High School. He served in the 81st Mortar Platoon in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a pressman for the New Cumberland Army Depot. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento. He was also a member of F& AM Valley Lodge 797 Valley View, Harrisburg Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Millersburg Forest 125, and the Gratz VFW Post 2385. After having a left ventricular assist device implanted in January 2008, Charlie was selected as an ambassador for Thoratec Corporation, the manufacturer of the device. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a lifelong fan of the Phillies and Penn State Football. One of Charlie's greatest passions was meticulously manicuring his lawn. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Shade, Daniel Shade, Kenneth Shade, and Junior Shade; and by two sisters Olive Herb and Beatrice Shade. He is survived by his wife Carol L (Klinger) Shade, to whom he was married for 54 years. He is also survived by two daughters Melanie A Yeager and her husband Doug of Millersburg, and Susan D Kashmere and her husband Joe of Harrisburg; a son Scott C Shade and his companion Shana E Fulk of New Cumberland; two granddaughters Lindsey Yeager of Millersburg and Kristine Kashmere of Pittsburgh; and two grandsons Derek Yeager of Millersburg and Jonathan Kashmere of Harrisburg. Memorial services were held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Raymond Holland officiating. Visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday at the church. Burial will be made in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 2300 Main Street. Sacramento, PA 17968. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
