Charles Robert Smith Sr., age 82, of 2134 E Main St, Valley View, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Schuylkill Medical Center- S. Jackson St., Pottsville. He was born on Saturday, October 18, 1930, in Ithica, NY, a son of the late Charles R. Smith and Bertha (Erdman) Smith-Bowman. He was a farmer having been employed by the former Carl Farms and last worked as a truck driver for Kenneth Bloch. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento and a former member of the Hegins Fire Company. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn M (Miller) Smith, who passed away October 28, 2010, and a son James D. Smith who passed away June 8, 2011. He is also survived by two sons Charles R Smith, Jr. of Valley View and Bruce L Smith of Frederick, MD; two daughters Susan M Mattis of Sacramento and Carol A Bowman of Hegins; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; a sister Pauline Troutman of Elizabethville; a step brother Clark Bowman of Berrysburg; and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be made in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul's U.C.C Church 2300 Main St. Sacramento, PAb17968.
