Carrie Viola Koons, age 87 of the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Valley View, died Saturday at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Fearnot, on September 10, 1918, a daughter of the late Monroe and Regina (Wagner) Schade. She retired as an assembler for the former Hegins Precision Division of Penn Reel, Hegins. She was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Fearnot. Her husband Charles M. Koons died in 1984. She is survived by two daughters Jean A. Lenker, Ashland, and Patricia M. Paul, Herndon; a sister Beatrice Kline, Danville; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son James C Koons; a grandson Marlin E Carl; two brothers William Schade and John Schade; and by three sisters Mary Shade, Myrtle Hunter, and Irene Kessler. Funeral services were held at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Fearnot at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug 17, with Rev. William Danis officiating. A viewing was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View. A viewing was also held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Fearnot. Burial was made in St. Peter's Cemetery, Fearnot.
