Obituary

Bruce A Moyer, age 90, of the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tremont, formerly of Valley View passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Schuylkill Medical Center- South Jackson, Pottsville. He was born on Thursday, June 23, 1921, in Valley View, a son of the late Darwin and Minnie Bixler Moyer. He was a Sgt in the US Army during World War II; serving in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. After leaving the Army Bruce was employed as a steelworker for Bethlehem Steel Lebanon; he later worked as a coal miner in area coal mines, was a school bus driver for the Tri-Valley sports teams, and retired as a custodian for the Tri-Valley School District. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View. He was also a member of the Patriotic Order Sons of America; and a former member of VFW Post 8237, Valley View. Bruce was an excellent baseball player and enjoyed following the Philadelphia Phillies. He was preceded in death by his wife Almeda Lucas Moyer. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers Leo Moyer, Clyde Moyer, Ivan Moyer, Wayne Moyer, Alvin Moyer, Melvin Moyer, and Elvin Moyer; and by a sister Viola Weiss. He is survived by two sons Bruce L Moyer and his wife Marlene "Sue" of Schuylkill Haven, and Glendon L Moyer and his wife Christine of Fort Montgomery, NY; a granddaughter Vicki L Martinez of Pine Grove; a grandson Donald P Moyer of Orlando, FL; three great grandsons Victor A Martinez of Pine Grove, Jonathan M Martinez of Pine Grove, and Nikolas J Moyer of Orlando, FL; a sister Betty Hummel of Hegins; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 11:00 AM, with Rev.William Danis and Dr. Ira Lydic officiating. Visitation was held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday at the church. Burial with military honors was made in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View.
