Obituary

Betty M. (Dunkelberger) Geist, age 95, of Hegins, PA passed away February 24, 2022 at Providence Place of Pine Grove, PA

She was born Wednesday, January 12, 1927, the daughter of the late William H. and Maude E. (Bateman) Dunkelberger.

Betty was a graduate of the former Hegins Township High School and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Hegins. She was also a member of the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens and enjoyed many memorable trips with her dear friend, Julie Klinger. Ireland being a favorite.

Betty and her husband, Marvin, along with his brother, Walter owned and operated the former, "Valley Lunch" in Hegins which was located across from the Tri-Valley High School.
She and Marvin were married February 19, 1948 and celebrated 70 years of marriage. Along with raising their 3 children, Betty worked for 25 years as a "cafeteria/lunch lady" at Hegins-Hubley Elementary School. She is fondly remembered by the many kiddos she served. She was a Ladies Auxiliary member and also tended the cake wheel for the Hegins Fire Company carnivals for many years.

Mom/Memmy enjoyed so much throughout her life: walks, shopping trips with dear friends, vacations with her husband, baking, quilting. She loved camping with the entire family at the Port Royal cabin, which her grandparents and family built. Multiple generations of relatives have enjoyed making memories there.

Our family tradition of gathering every Monday evening to enjoy family and Mem's yummy baked goods will be missed, but the memories will be treasured.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin E. Geist, their son, James M. Geist as well as her parents and brother, LeRoy H. Dunkelberger.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Larry) Willier and Debra (Charles) Buffington, Hegins; sisters-in-law, Mary Dunkelberger, Hegins; Lorraine Schwalm, Harrisburg and Ann Geist, Hershey; brother-in-law, Arnold Geist, Hegins. She has 7 grandchildren, Beth Betz (Harold), Michael Willier (Shannon), Jill McAllister (Bradley), Ryan Buffington (Bridgit), Lynn McClaus, Tammy Fredericks, and Cathy Geist; 10 great-grandchildren, Jared, Megan, Jordan, Bryar, Rydan, Lily, Brandon, Alexis, William and Henry and three, soon to be four great-great granddaughters, Brielle, Willow, Olivia and Baby Betz; and many nieces and nephews.

As per Betty's wishes, there will be no services.
