Alfred W Burkle, age 83, Pine Grove Twp., passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, January 18, 1931, in Philadelphia, a son of the late John P Burkle and Ella May Swan Burkle. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a baker at Boulevard Baking Company Philadelphia prior his retirement. After retirement he worked at Anthony's Feed Mill, Strausstown and Berger's Supermarket, Pine Grove. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove. He was also a member of the Strausstown Rod and Gun Club. Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He was preceded in death by six siblings. He is survived by his wife Klara K Gruber Burkle, to whom he was married for 56 years. He is also survived by three sons Wiliam F Thesing and his wife Helga of Willow Grove, Ronald T Burkle and his wife Valerie of Skippack, and Stephen A Burkle and his wife Linda of Pine Grove; a daughter Andrea K Knoll and her husband Randall of Pine Grove; seven grandchildren; two great grandsons; a brother William C Burkle of Demming, NM; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services with Military Honors were held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Richard Schoenleber officiating.
