Mary A Koppenhaver, age 97, of 306 W Maple Street, Valley View, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at The Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg. She was born on Tuesday, August 21, 1917, in Gratz, a daughter of the late Homer Coleman and the late Anetta Umholtz Coleman. She was a 1935 graduate of the former Hubley Twp High School. Mary married Russell C Koppenhaver on June 25, 1938. She worked as a welder in the Baltimore Shipyard during World War II. Mary and her husband owned and operated the former Koppy's Restaurant in Spring Glen. She retired from the former Muskin Shoe Company, Millersburg. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento. Mary enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, camping, and traveling. Her husband Russell C Koppenhaver passed away in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Marcella Stutzman and Ruth Schwalm; a brother Thomas Coleman; and a son in law Terry Hoffman. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda L Hoffman of Valley View; two granddaughters, Vicki L Weber of Valley View and Michelle L Smith of Hegins; two great grandsons, Brayden Smith and Brody Smith; three great granddaughters Jennilyn Weber, Juliann Weber, and Brielle Smith; two sisters, Marie Spotts of Carlisle, Devona Lieberman of Doylestown; a beloved nephew Larry Spotts; and several other nieces and nephew. Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Raymond Holland officiating. Visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial was made in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento. Condolences can be left for the family at www.buffingtonreed.com.
