Obituary

Lila Margaret Boyer of Bryan, TX, age 106, passed away peacefully on 03/18/2021. She was born in
Klingerstown, PA, February 26, 1915, to Edwin and Lizzie Maurer Snyder.
Lila grew up on a small Pennsylvania farm where one of her chores was to take the cows to and from
the fields. As a young woman she trained to be a beautician and colorist. She married the late Marlin J.
Boyer on July 25, 1936; they were married for 57 years. They began raising their three sons in
Pottsville, PA, but moved in 1952 to Rockdale, TX. The family made annual summer trips driving
from Texas to Pennsylvania to be with family and attend the big reunion picnics.
Lila was a warm and loving wife and mom who put the family first, ahead of her own desires and
needs. She made her family feel loved and safe and with a shoulder available to cry on. She was an
excellent cook and baker, who always made nutritious meals that the family enjoyed together after a
hectic day. Many of her favorite recipes are still being made by family members, especially the soft
molasses cookies. She and her husband had a goal to give their sons a college education, and they did
whatever it took to support them in this endeavor. For many years, it seemed she was always attending
her sons' activities. In particular, she spent countless hours at baseball games watching her sons
participate in a sport that she liked.
The family moved to Albemarle, NC in 1963. There she took up golf at the Badin, NC, Country Club
where she played for many years and was fortunate to have gotten a hole-in-one. She also loved taking
care of her flowers and visiting the beach with her grandchildren. For ten years, she assisted her
husband after his stroke so that they could stay in their home and remain self-sufficient.
Lila spent the final 17 years of her life in Bryan, TX, to live closer to her oldest son, Jim, and his
family. When she turned 100, she thoroughly enjoyed the big party she had insisted she wanted with
many family and friends sharing hugs and stories. The St. Joseph Manor's staff helped her while she
was at their assisted living facility and later nursing facility. During her last few years she was also
aided by Hospice Brazos Valley. They all provided Lila with much love and dignity in her final years.
Lila was predeceased by her seven siblings: Helen Snyder, Thurman Snyder, Sidney Wetzel, Lee
Snyder, Gertie Hepler, Earl Snyder, and Arlene Miller.
She is survived by her three sons: Marlin James (Cynthia) Boyer Jr. of College Station, TX, Robert
(Mary) Boyer of Arvada, CO, and David (Therese) Boyer of Biltmore Lake, NC. She also had five
grandchildren: Elizabeth Jesurun, Marlin James Boyer III, Angela Dewberry, Steven Boyer, and Emily
Boyer; and three great-grandchildren, William Boyer, Allison Boyer and Lila Dewberry.
There will be no services or visitations at this time due to COVID 19 restrictions. Donations in Lila's
memory can be sent to St. Joseph Manor or Hospice Brazos Valley.
