Dennis Paul Wiest

MSgt Dennis Paul Wiest, USAF, Ret., age 78, of 645 Honeymoon Trail, Hegins, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, May 31, 1936, in Sacramento, a son of the late G. Paul Wiest and Evelyn E Kimmel Wiest. He graduated from the former Hubley Twp High School in 1954 and then enlisted in the US Air Force. He proudly served twenty years with numerous tours in Alaska, Maryland, and Massachusetts. Dennis later became the foreman of Paxton Products, Millersburg. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento. Dennis was also a member of American Legion Post 575, Valley View, and the Air Force Association. He loved spending time with his family, golfing with his dear friends, morning coffee trips to Traci's, hunting, working in his garden and woodshop, and spoiling his grandchildren. Dennis was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Gloria Hoffman. He is survived by his wife Dolores F Buffington Wiest, to whom he was married for 55 years. He is also survived by two sons Col. Gary D Wiest, USMC, Ret. and his wife Sheila of State College and Scott P Wiest and his wife Sandra of Hickory Corners; a daughter Donna F Laudenslager and her husband Tony of Etters; two grandsons, Wayne Wiest and LT Kyle Wiest, USN; three granddaughters, Natalie Wiest, Stephanie Lenig, and Kristie Laudenslager; a great granddaughter Paige Lenig; a great grandson Ivan Lenig; a brother Larry Wiest of Mechanicsburg; two sisters Patricia Stiely of Klingerstown and Linda Beigh of Enola; and several nieces and nephews. We all loved him dearly and will miss him very much. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento, on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Raymond Holland officiating. Visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday at the church. Burial with military honors was made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Pennsylvania Division, P.O. Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033.
