Obituary

Kathryn M. Hand. age 84, of 790 East Mountain Road, Hegins, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, the late Gene W. Hand who passed away October 11, 2010.

She was born on Saturday, December 21, 1929, in Lykens, a daughter of the late Ira I. and H. Ruth Snyder Hoffman.

She was a graduate of the former Lykens High School.

She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Fountain.

Kathryn enjoyed reading, sewing, putting puzzles together, gardening, camping, hiking, sitting in the woods, and driving around the country side admiring all of God's creation. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents Rev. William "Billy" Snyder and his wife Catherine, two sons John M. and William G. "Billy" Hand, three brothers Carl W., Warren E. and Kenneth L Hoffman and one sister, Dorothy M. Staple.

She is survived by one son, David J. Hand and his wife Beverly of Hegins, one daughter, Carole M. Riehl and her husband Leonard of Dayton, OH; one brother, Clarence I. I. "Bud" Hoffman and his wife Ella Sue of Gray, KY; four grandchildren, Laura L. Hand, Bethany L. Stutzman and her husband Jeff, Christopher J. Hand, and Emily M. Hand; two great-grandchildren, Rosie G. amd Emma E. Stutzman; and a daughter in law, Brenda L. Hand of Sacramento.

Services were held at Christ United Church of Christ, Fountain, on Friday, September 26, 2014, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Michael C Klahr officiating.

A visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday at Christ United Church of Christ, Fountain.

Burial was made in Calvary United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Benevolent Fund at Christ United Church of Christ P.O. Box 57, Hegins, PA 17938 or to the Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
