Wilmer Lewis Maurer, Sr., age 87, of 56 Penny Lane, Hegins, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015 at his home.

He was born on December 1, 1927 in Barry Twp, PA, a son of the late Jay J.and Erma K (Morgan) Maurer.

He was a 1945 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School and served in the Navy during WWII .

He was a self employed Truck Driver and also worked as a coal miner and farmer. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 575, Valley View.

Wilmer enjoyed working in his flower gardens, traveling and will be remembered as a jokester; he enjoyed laughing and making others laugh.

He was preceded in death by one son, Wilmer L. "Butch" Maurer, Jr.; three sisters, Ethel Gallentine, Vivian Greenawalt, and his twin sister, Wilma Lois Maher.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie B. (Schwartz) Maurer, to whom he was married for 65 years.

He is also survived by four sons, William H. Maurer and his wife Patricia, Jay J. Maurer and his wife Julie, Joseph R. Maurer and his wife Christine, Dennis B. Maurer and his wife Penny, four daughters, Patricia K. Engle and her husband Herb, Lois J. Baker and her husband Terry, Ann M. Webster and her husband Glenn, Karen L. Kissinger and her husband Tom; daughter-in-law Lisa Maurer; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at St. John's United Methodist Church Hegins PA 17938, on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 11 AM with Rev. William Danis officiating.

A viewing was held Thursday from 10 AM to 11 AM at the church .

Burial was made in a private family cemetery.
