Darlene Sarah Hinkel ,age 89, of 1223 Deep Creek Road, Ashland, passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

She was born on Monday, April 8, 1929, in Coal Twp, PA, a daughter of Clyde Melvin Kehres and Nerma Loretta Whary Kehres.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard E Hinkel, who passed away November 13, 2013. They shared 64 years of marriage.

She was a 1947 graduate of the former Ashland High School and worked for the County Election Board of Barry Township for over 50 years.

She was a member of St. John's "Kimmel's" Church, Ashland and was an active member of its Ladies Guild.

Darlene enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three daughters, Anita K and her husband Ronnie Bixler of Barry Twp, Angela R and her husband Eric Schalles of Barry Twp, Beth A and her husband Robert Huntsinger of Barry Twp; four grandsons, Mike Bixler and his wife Lindsey, Jason Bixler and his wife Danielle, Scott Schalles and his wife Christina, Richard Huntsinger; two granddaughters, Erica Schalles, Gina Huntsinger; two great grandsons, Brantley Bixler, Myles Schalles; and one great granddaughter Aspen Bixler; and was awaiting her fourth great grandchild in September; one sister, Bonita Madara of Mechanicsburg; many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by, two brothers, Melvin Kehres, and Roland Kehres, and one sister, Loretta Simpson.

Services were held at St. John's "Kimmel's" Church, Ashland, on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at 11:00 AM , with Pastor Bonnie Yeager officiating.

Viewing was held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, PA and from 10:00 to 11 AM on Wednesday, at St John's "Kimmel's Church, Ashland.

Burial was made in St. John's "Kimmel's" Cemetery, Ashland PA 17921.
