Anna J Zerbe, age 86, of 106 Gap Street, Valley View, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Monday, September 5, 1927, in Valley View, a daughter of the late Philip F Zerbe, Sr and the late Lillie A Bensinger Zerbe.

She was a 1945 graduate of the former Hegins Twp HIgh School, a 1949 graduate of West Chester University, and received her MEd and EdD from Temple University.

She was a physical education teacher for Lykens High School, Upper Dauphin Joint High School, Temple University, Philadelphia Public Schools, and Penn State University Capitol Campus. She served on the Governor's Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and had retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Anna was a Field Hockey Club Player form 1956 to 1963. She was a member of the Mideast First Sectional Team for 10 years and honorable mention on the United States Field Hockey Team in 1963.

Anna loved to travel throughout the United States and Canada. She enjoyed gardening, camping, reading, and fishing.

She was a very active member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View. She was also a member of the National Association of Health Physical Education and Recreation Teachers; the Pennsylvania State Association of Health Physical Education ant Recreation Teachers; the National Association for Physical Education of College Women; the American School Health Association; and Phi Delta Kappa.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her companion S. Lauretta Pierce; by two brothers Mark I Zerbe and Dean R Zerbe; and by two sisters June P Hornbeck and Nellie F Lull.

She is survived by a brother Philip F Zerbe, Jr. and his wife Norene M Zerbe of Pine Grove; sisters in law Dolores L Zerbe and Marion M Zerbe both of Valley View; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Duane Bardo officiating.

A viewing was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday at the church.

Burial was made in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View.
